Shimadzu Biotech, the recently launched business unit of Shimadzu Corporation has promoted Dr Chris Sutton to the position of Global Business Manager for MALDI instruments. This move will further propel the unit's strategy to integrate products from Shimadzu and their subsidiary Kratos Analytical. Dr Sutton joined Kratos Analytical in April 1998 as MALDI (matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation) Product Manager, during which time he promoted the Kompact series of MALDI mass spectrometry instruments. "My experience in this area has allowed me to become a primary influence on the design and performance of the next generation of MALDI mass spectrometers," Dr Sutton commented. "As Global Business Manager I look forward to seeing Shimadzu Biotech become the key provider of analytical solutions for life science and drug discovery," he added. In this new role, Dr Sutton will hold global responsibility for MALDI MS business including sales & marketing, applications, engineering and research & development. He will be based at the Kratos Analytical facility in Manchester, UK. Shimadzu Biotech aims to provide solutions-based products
to accelerate the progress of biotechnology research and development.
Along with the new AXIMA series of MALDI-TOF (MALDI Time-Of-Flight)
mass spectrometers for proteomics and genomics, Shimadzu Biotech
will also be supporting combinatorial chemistry, micro-satellite
