Press Release June 2005

SHIMADZU CORPORATION AND PHENOMENOME DISCOVERIES ANNOUNCE A COLLABORATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTWARE TOOLS FOR METABOLOMICS.

Saskatoon, Canada and Kyoto, Japan
June 6, 2005

Shimadzu Corporation and Phenomenome Discoveries Inc (PDI), a leading provider in comprehensive metabolomics analysis of biological samples and of software tools for metabolomics analysis, have agreed to integrate mass spectrometry data generated on Shimadzu Corporation's LC/MS systems with the Phenomenome Profiler™ informatics platform. Today's announcement combines the strength of Shimadzu Corporation's unique mass spectrometry product line with PDI's software tools to visualise and interpret data for metabolomics research.

Kozo Shimazu, Corporate Officer, Deputy General manager For Mass Spectrometry, at Shimadzu Corporation, stated 'Our collaboration with PDI will open new research opportunities in metabolomics, particularly with our new LCMS-IT-TOF technology which offers high mass accuracy and MSn analysis. We believe that this relationship offers research groups working with mass spectrometry data interpretation tools to help understand and characterise the influence of small molecules on human health and disease'.

John Hyshka, COO of Phenomenome Discoveries, said 'Our agreement with Shimadzu Corporation allows metabolomics investigators to develop informatics workflows. This will help address the need among researchers for tools to integrate large data sets and identify key markers for disease using alternative separation platforms and mass spectrometry technology'.

Results and data from this collaboration will be presented at the upcoming annual meeting of the American Society of Mass Spectrometry in San Antonio, Texas, USA (June 5-9th), and at the annual meeting of the Metabolomics Society in Tsuroka City, Japan (June 20-23rd).
