Press Release October 2005

SHIMADZU CORPORATION AND PHENOMENOME DISCOVERIES INC. FORM WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT ON PHENOMENOME PROFILER™ METABOLOMICS SOFTWARE

Saskatoon, Canada and Kyoto, Japan
October 17, 2005

Shimadzu Corporation, and Phenomenome Discoveries Inc (PDI), a leading provider of software tools for metabolomics analysis, will announce an agreement at the 8th Annual Symposium on Chemical and Pharmaceutical Structure Analysis, taking place October 17 - 20, 2005 in Princeton, NJ, making Shimadzu a worldwide distributor of Phenomenome Profiler™ metabolomics software. Under the agreement, Shimadzu will co-market and distribute PDI's software tools for global metabolite profiling together with Shimadzu Corporation's unique mass spectrometry product lines for GC/MS and LC/MS.

Kozo Shimazu, Corporate Officer, Deputy General Manager for Mass Spectrometry and Life Science at Shimadzu Corporation, stated "This agreement provides researchers in metabolomics and biomarker discovery with software tools to interpret complex mass spectrometry data sets and identify metabolic profiles that underlie the development of many disease states. By bringing together Shimadzu's mass spectrometry technology, particularly the quadrupole ion trap TOF platform, with PDI software tools we can accurately find components in highly complex samples. This will impart a better understanding of metabolomics for biomarker detection and identification in toxicology and disease."

John Hyshka, COO of Phenomenome Discoveries, said 'Working with Shimadzu Corporation will open Phenomenome Profiler software to research groups worldwide, particularly since, as the results of our previous collaboration, this product is designed to work seamlessly with Shimadzu's premier instruments for metabolome analysis'.
