The mass accuracy of any MALDI analysis is largely dependent on the calibration method employed. While internal calibration is the most accurate procedure, it can be tedious to
achieve due to the difficulty of finding suitable standards and ensuring the correct peak intensities of standard and sample signals. External calibration, using calibrants spotted on an adjacent
well, is simpler and requires less optimisation, however it does not achieve the level of accuracy obtained with internal calibration.
To address this issue, we have introduced a new target format incorporating 96 interleaved defined calibrant positions, promoting improved mass accuracy. A new plate file for automatic localisation
of the additional calibrant positions is also available.
