Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is one of the classic protein fractionation tools widely used in proteomic analysis. Whilst 2D gels offer unparalleled resolving power for complex samples, the use of 1D gels in proteomic analysis is still a key technology for the analysis of samples which are not amenable to 2D gels (for example, membrane proteins).
1D electrophoresis is typically applied to complex proteome systems, such as cell lines, that have either been prefractionated or intended for further down stream analysis by separations such as 2D LC interfaced to ESI or MALDI mass spectrometry. TL120 has also been applied to a broad spectrum of other methodologies including Western blots and DNA analysis (PFLP, RAPD, Northern and Southern blotting).
Key benefits and features:-
- Automated lane and band detection. It's quick, simple and highly flexible. Supports automatic detection of multi-tier gels and takes into account distortions or differential loading.
- Band Quantitation. Quantitative calibration components can be used to provide an accurate assessment of band intensity between gels for comparative studies. The quality of the quantitation can be enhanced by using advanced background subtraction routines.
- Lane relationship comparisons. Band matching can be made to any reference lane even with gels that are highly distorted. Simple visualization tools allow a quick comparison of lane relationships within a gel.
- Powerful Band Picking Tool. Integrated support for Shimadzu Biotech Xcise gel processing station. The Xcise system supports not only 1D but also 2D gel processing to mass spectrometry.
